SUNSHINE'S CATERING 2018 GRAND TASTING EVENT | FOSS WATERWAY SEAPORT | TACOMA EVENT PHOTOGRAPHER

Did you know that Laura Kesler Photography provides not only portrait and wedding photography, but event photography as well?

Today, I served as the exclusive event photographer for Sunshine's Catering 2018 Grand Tasting Event.  I enjoyed documenting everything in photos, and getting to taste and experience Chef Sunshine's exquisite food as well.  Sunshine's Catering creates and serves food as a form of culinary art; they truly take it to a whole new level, with dishes that are tactile and appealing to all five senses.

For those who may not be familiar with Sunshine's Catering, they are a highly regarded wedding and event catering business serving the Gig Harbor/Olympia/Seattle/Olympia area.  After experiencing the quality of their service and their food, I'm of the humble opinion that Chef Sunshine should also open a restaurant; it's so, so, so, so good!!!  I am thoroughly impressed at how delicious everything tasted, how unique and generous the offerings were, how beautifully everything was presented, and how well Chef Sunshine and her staff took care of the many couples who attended today's event.

I shouldn't be surprised.  Chef Sunshine trained both overseas and here in America, and is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in New York.  She has worked all over the world, including France, Asia, Italy, Indonesia, the Bahamas, Los Angeles, and similar countries and cities.  She has a wealth of experience and takes the science and art of high-end catering very seriously.

I was also able to see Sunshine's Catering's second chef - Chef Kaanoi - in action as well.  Chef Kaanoi is a graduate of the Gros Bonnet Culinary Academy in Hawaii, and has worked and supervised culinary operations in well-known restaurants in many cosmopolitan areas, including West Palm Beach, Las Vegas, and San Francisco.

Chef Sunshine and Chef Kaanoi - and their entire team - seem to work incredibly well together, and provided an incredibly successful Grand Tasting experience.

Foss Waterway Seaport provided the event space for today's Grand Tasting. Foss Waterway Seaport is a large and lovely venue with a friendly, professional, and organized staff.  It offers a great view of Puget Sound and Mount Rainier, and I love the warm, rustic interior (complete with tons of twinkle lights on the ceiling).  The Foss venue team was responsive not only to the many event attendees but also to the wedding professionals in attendance.  They ensured that things ran smoothly and that everyone felt well taken care of.  It was fun getting to know them and learning about the historic nature of the Foss Waterway Seaport.

Parlor Swing - a really cool musical group that plays (and sings!) swing and jazz music amazingly well - provided live music for the duration of the afternoon.  Parlor Swing is a true class act, and I felt very fortunate to have been able to experience their music.

Floral accents, centerpieces, and design services were provided by Kristen from Contemporary Floral.  Kristen is a floral design artist with over fifteen years of experience.  She provided numerous lush and fragrant flower arrangements, both big and small.  She also provided artfully arranged sprigs of greenery for tablescapes and for the buffet and food tables, and created a warm and welcoming ambience with candles and tasteful decor.

Jacques, the owner and director of renowned event and wedding planning service JDH Events, was present to help couples with planning questions, ideas, and services.  Jacques has a wealth of experience and is well connected to many great wedding pros within the Gig Harbor and greater Seattle/Tacoma/Olympia areas.  I appreciated hearing his stance on working with other wedding vendors.  He works hard to ensure that the couples he serves are matched with true professionals within our industry, which I appreciate and think is an important quality in an event and wedding planner.  Both he and Kristin (from Contemporary Floral) work with a wide range of budgets and seem to care deeply about providing great customer service and a fantastic client experience.

DJ and entertainer Jeremy Hamel, of Velvetone Productions, was also present at the Grand Tasting.  Jeremy is an Air Force veteran and is very friendly, upbeat, personable and easy to talk with.  He has an impressive resume and an extensive and long history in music, public speaking, and the performing arts.  He has served as an event host at many events and location around the SeaTac area, to include The Loose Wheel Bar & Grill, Roadhouse Bar & Grill, Radio Parites, Q'z Restaurant and Lounge, and the Delta Breeze Club.  Jeremy has also DJ'd for years for Velvetone Events, Hansen Entertainment, Events with Integrity, Direct Sounds DJs, and Mr. DJ.  I hope to photograph a wedding soon at which he is the host/disc jockey, as I know it will be energetic, well-run, and very fun.

My table/booth/exhibit neighbor was Katie - the owner of Harbor Cakes.  Trust me when I say that the cakes she displayed, and the samples she provided, were mouth-watering and gorgeous!!!  Katie takes great care in choosing and using quality ingredients and bakes everything from scratch in her fully licensed home bakery/kitchen.  I was especially impressed at how she uses fondant and unique flavors in her cake artistry.  Katie offers vegan, gluten-free, nut-free, soy-free, and kosher wedding cake options and many flavors and types of cakes, compotes, fillings, and frostings.

Huguette, from French Moods, had a lovely exhibit, including French products and information on her event and wedding planning business.  Huguette also offers French cooking classes, and in conjunction with Chef Sunshine is leading a Culinary Journey in the Heart of Provence event in June 2018.  The Journey is going to be a 10-day cultural and culinary event in Provence, France.  (Chef Sunshine and Huguette - might you need a photographer to come and document the highlights?!  If so, I happen to know one who would probably love to serve as your Journey photographer!!)  =D

Sunshine's Catering 2018 Grand Tasting Event was a phenomenal experience, and I'm so grateful for the opportunity to have served as the event photographer!!
